My name is Russell Johnston and I'm an outdoor adventure photographer with a focus on wildlife photography. I want my images to educate, inspire, and open eyes.
One of the first questions I get when someone finds me, they ask what is my logo. It stems from my favorite animal, the octopus, but it's actually a kraken. The next question they ask, surprised, is why a kraken? I truly believe there are species of marine life we have yet to discover. It's been estimated nearly 90% of the ocean has been unexplored. The kraken speaks to the kid in me, reminding me impossible things happen all the time, while inspiring me to go out and document as much of the world as I can. It reminds me to never stop searching for the wonder in life.
Previously, I was solely an action sports photographer. While I received some amazing opportunities to shoot in that industry, I knew I couldn't stay there forever. My true passion in life lied with working outdoors, underwater and on land. I found I wanted to educate and inspire others about conservation efforts and the danger of animal and plant extinction.
I still shoot action sports and am part of some film and post-production work. I won't take down or even stop creating more of my work in the action sports industry, as it's part of who I am. Overall, I am excited for the future. I'm excited to educate others on conservation and ending extinction. I'm excited to inspire the general population to take action and open the eyes of others. I'm excited you're here with me and want to learn more. Feel free to contact me anytime.
If you need to reach me for any reason, please shoot me an email. You can also call me or even text if it fits your needs. Though I may not be able to answer every time, since I will probably be shooting.
Before moving to wildlife and outdoor nature photography I got my start in the crazy world of Action Sports and thought for those who want to see, here are links to my Action Sports work.
